And it seems as though we’re not the only ones making this kind of prediction.

The Met Office has just published its long-range outlook for November right through to January next year and it doesn’t exactly make for pleasant reading. The company highlighted the risk of a cold start to the winter this year… so don’t go out without your hat, scarves and gloves!

“Current output from the Met Office prediction system for the November to January period points to an increased likelihood of high pressure to the northwest of the UK, in the vicinity of Iceland and Greenland. This ‘blocking’ signal opposes the progress of depressions which usually track towards the UK in winter and bring mild and wet weather. It therefore implies more frequent north or north-easterly winds and an increase in the likelihood of colder- and drier-than-average conditions,” the report said.

So now’s the time to stock up on grit for your driveway, as well as salt for the roads and ice scrapers for your car. You should also think about putting some blankets in the boot and a supply of chocolate just in case you find yourself stranded at any point.
